Nozawa Onsen (in practice)
Nozawa Onsen is a classic Nagano village — narrow streets, public soto-yu baths, and a ski area that starts from town. Groups love it because you can walk to the gondola and keep evenings in one walkable core without a rental car.
- Base in the village if you want après, groceries, and onsen walks between runs. Higher lodges exist but add shuttle dependence.
- Snow: strong tree skiing when storms hit; plan flexible days — wind holds can change which side of the mountain is best.
- Onsen etiquette: rinse before soaking, small towel stays out of the water, tattoos may be restricted in some baths — check house rules or use your lodging’s private bath.
Nozawa rewards crews who embrace slow village rhythm: one home street for the week, fixed meetup points, and nights that do not need a car.
