Snowboard beginner essentials
Japan’s resorts are beginner-friendly if you respect lifts and pace. Your first two days are about confidence and control, not keeping up with the crew on black runs.
- Stance: regular vs goofy — a rental shop can help you decide; set bindings so knees do not twist awkwardly.
- Heel edge first: learn to sideslip and stop on your heel edge before chasing toe-side turns.
- Lifts: one foot strapped, skate to the line, sit when the chair touches your legs — watch locals for queue flow; some areas prefer the board on your inside foot.
- Lessons: half-day group or private at Happo, Nozawa, or Yuzawa pay off — friends are patient, instructors are systematic.
Agree on a “slow lane” buddy and a meetup time. The goal is to end day one tired but smiling, not scared of the gondola.
